I’m lucky enough to know some really good writers and/or journalists. I get my "monthly fixes" as I turn the pages of the magazine to get to my favourite articles. Then laugh, cry or sigh depending on what they crafted with their particular brand of magic, pen and paper. I often think that maybe life could learn something from the art of the journalist.
They are not afraid of "do-overs". Yet when we make a mistake, even if we can "rub it out", we can chide ourselves for months. Imagine what happens when that eraser doesn’t work.
They constantly test boundaries, their own sometimes, and ours quite often. Even the cooking recipes could lead us to uncharted territories.
Most importantly, they share, asking us to look at things on a global or perhaps very personal level. All the while acknowledging that life is not perfect; or particularly well ordered at times; and down right difficult at others. Sharing leads to healing; and sharing is the "deeper meaning" where most of the magic of the story can be found.
It must take a smidge of courage to submit that controversial article. So too, to at last commit to starting or completing that degree, or getting a deep-sea diving license, or take up flower arranging if everything else looks too daunting.
If we approached our lives in short segments, like a short article, we might be a lot happier with the results. Live life, one page at a time, prepared for all the mystery, suspense, tears, happiness and sweet treats that flow from the ink of this chapter.
Stay tuned for the next chapter in the life of <insert your name here>.
